Who I Am and What I Love …

With a PhD in Clinical Psychology, I am licensed and board-certified as a clinical psychologist. I am an experienced yoga teacher (ERYT500) and teacher trainer, as well as a yoga therapist (C-IAYT) with concurrent certifications in Interactive Guided Imagery and the Buteyko Method of Breathing Instruction.  I have held many academic leadership positions and have published extensively in the scientific literature. Currently, I have the great joy to serve as a clinical professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Stanford School of Medicine, where I was given the amazing opportunity to found and direct YogaX, a Special Initiative designed to bring yoga services into healthcare. I have the profound privilege to help prepare yoga teachers for therapeutic yoga applications in healthcare settings and support qualified healthcare providers in the integration of therapeutic yoga principles and practices into their extant clinical practice. A yoga practitioner for over five decades, I am committed to excellence (via intention, beneficence, and accessibility), holism (by honoring and treating the whole person), and integration (via person-centered, tailored application of diverse interventions) in clinical services, teaching, consultation, and research.

My work as a yoga clinician, psychologist, and author is grounded in an integrated holistic approach to life - an approach that honors the complexity of being human across the many layers of our experience. Drawing from the full spectrum of yoga’s practices and informed by neuroscience, positive psychology, and interpersonal neurobiology, I offer a diversity of resources for practitioners, teachers, and healthcare professionals seeking a thoughtful and accessible path of yoga, contemplative practice, and healthcare. Elsewhere on this website, you can find my books, free practices, blogs, and more. Thank you for stopping by. Let me know if you have any questions.

With gratitude,
